The largest indoor complex in Hungarian railway history, a system of vast covered spaces unique in Europe, the Northern Railway Maintenance and Engineering Works was built between 1884 and 1886 by the Eiffel Studio. After years of alterations and renovations, it is now home to the Hungarian State Opera’s new logistics and art centre, including sets and costumes workshops, rehearsal rooms, and more. The central Locomotive Hall of the Eiffel Art Studios is the most impressive part of the complex, exhibiting a Series 327 locomotive and its cars. These engines were the most beautiful ones in Hungarian railway manufacturing history, so in the industry everyone referred to them as the Queen. The last survivor of the series was rescued from a train junkyard, and the wreck was perfectly restored by train enthusiasts assisted by the Opera workshops. The locomotive Nr. 327.016 and its teak dining car were part of the Orient Express, and while it cannot be stated with certainty, it is by no means impossible that fate may have once brought together the 327 locomotive with its coal car and dining car, as it too served on the Orient line.
